5 Things to Prep for the Election Season

prepping for elections

It is easy to get caught up into the hype of the election season.  This is especially true when you have a law breaking president in office and other crooked politicians in the Congress.  We can become so passionate that we lose focus on everything else.

This is not good for a prepper.  We must be focused on being prepared for the fight regardless of what it is.  Therefore we must be aware of price increases that we see during the election season and determine how to prepare for it.

5 Preps to Make for the Election Season

  1. Gasoline

The price of gasoline typically increases during the election season.  This is due to speculators who adjust the price depending on who could become the next president and if they have a solid relationship with the industry.  Other times the price of gasoline is used to fuel an agenda for the politician or party in power.

Stockpiling gasoline is a dangerous task.  You will need to keep it in safe location that doesn’t have a chance of catching fire.  It should go without saying, but you don’t want to store your gasoline preps in your house.  The gas fumes can have a huge effect on your health.

Finally consider purchasing Jerry Cans to store the gasoline in.  This will keep the fumes locked in and prevent the gasoline from breaking down.  You will also need to rotate your gasoline preps just like you would with your food preps.

  1. Homes

Typically the housing market will see a drop around the election season (Movoto.com).  It could be that many worry about an increase in taxes and insurance claims.  Either way it is again speculation that causes this increase.

Now I’m not saying that you need to go out and buy a bunch of houses.  However, if you have the money you should consider purchasing.  A suburban prepper or homesteader has many more options when it comes to prepping.  The ideal scenario would be to go offgrid so that you are not dependent upon the government and the system.  Urban preppers do not have that option for the most part.

  1. Inflation

Along with the prices of the housing market dropping we typically see a dramatic increase in inflation.  This jacks the prices of our everyday commodities to some ridiculous prices.

Now I don’t recommend fighting inflation with your food preps.  That should be used for an emergency.  Inflation just makes your living more uncomfortable.  On top of that it affects how much prepper gear and food you are able to stockpile.

In order to combat this I recommend becoming self-sufficient.  This goes along with the previous point of building a homestead.  If you are growing your own food and raising your own meat then the increase in inflation will not affect you.  This will in turn even give you some bartering power.

  1. Ammunition and Guns

Every year it’s the same story.  There is always that one commy politician who is threatening to either enforce tougher gun laws or ban them altogether.  In turn the price of guns and ammunition sky rise because it drives many people to stock up urgently.

You need to get ahead of the rush.  You need to have plenty of ammunition stocked up.  On top of that you will need to spread out your gun and ammunition stockpile.  If there is the possibility of martial law being imposed and guns being retrieved you will need to have a secret stash in built into the walls of your house, in a bunker, or in a buried cache.

You don’t want to be forced to fight for you guns when they come to take them.  No matter who you are they will take them.  It doesn’t matter if your name is Chuck Norris.  So you don’t want to put up a fight when they come for them because it can affect your family.  Give them the little bit that you have on hand and then just dig up your buried cache after they leave.

  1. Precious Metals

Precious metals are also affected by the speculation that takes place during the election season.  The price of gold and silver see a huge spike (Hunting4gold.com).  The proposed government and economic policy talk has a huge influence.  Typically you will have one politician threatening to raise the taxes on the rich.  Then another one will threaten to raise the taxes on the poor.

An election alone probably couldn’t create an economic collapse.  However, it can be some telling signs of what is to come.  After the election the price of precious metals could return to the previous level or increase.  So it is best to begin stacking precious metals ASAP.

Having precious metals is the best way to fight inflation and can help you survive during an economic collapse.  I’ve mentioned this before but during a financial crisis the price of fiat currency will decrease but precious metals will increase or stay consistent with inflation.  Consequently this will give you purchasing power.
